How to: Tips and Tricks

How to ep.1: properly clean your gun after the hunt

Many people don’t think cleaning your gun after every time you shoot it is that important. But actually it is not the case. Yes, most modern shotguns have chomed inside barrels and crome does not rust. But dust and tar left form the shot create acidous compounds that over time will create pitting and finally will hurt the chrome. Second but evenly important is that when you touch your guns with bare hand, sweat and skin dust and other partcles act the same on the oxidation and if weather is wet or there was a rain it contribte to the process.

Cleaning you gun well every time will make it last several lifetimes and your gun will gather hisory and it serve not only you but also your grandkids. This is even more true for rifled barrels. Just remember the following tips:

  1. Use cleaning kit with ramrod and brushes softer than steel – wooden, brass or aluminun ramrod;
  2. Use gun oil or WD40 rather than grease;
  3. Use only cotton cloth;
  4. If your gun is wet, wipe the moisture and let it dry first;
  5. Clean also any residues or dust you see, because it will act as a sandpaper if fallen into the mechanisms.
